Junior Year
2020-2021

Junior year has come by so incredibly fast! Some goals that I have for this year include
1. Preparing for the DAT exam and dental school applications!
2. Doing well in classes such as Organic Chemistry and Immunology
3. Gaining more leadership positions within student organizations

* Note: The onstart/effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic caused virtually all students to be hybrid and/or online.

Texas State University System Student Regent
This year I was selected by the Texas State University System to be the Regents Student Scholar! This is an award that is given to a student within the TSUS system based on academics, leadership, and contributions to their university. I am so honored to be chosen by this award, and be recognized for my hard work and accomplishments!
02
Sleep in Heavenly Peace
Through word of mouth, I was able to find this incredible nonprofit known as "Sleep in Heavenly Peace". The purpose of this organization is to build and assemble twin and/or bunk beds for children in need. Within our local area, there is a need of 300+ beds to be assembled.

Every child who receives a bed from Sleep in Heavenly Peace also receives a free mattress and comforter. I hope to volunteer with them again in the future!
03
Hurricane Laura Dental Relief Drive
At the end of September 2020, the Orange, Texas and Lake Charles, Louisiana region was devasted by Hurricane Laura. During this natural disaster, many homes were ripped apart, flooded, and damaged.

As a result, many of the residents living in these neighboring towns had no power or running water for over a month. I worked together with my Pre-Dental Society on campus to create "Dental Hygiene Packets" in cooperation with national brands such as Crest.

We then traveled to United Way in Lake Charles to distribute these packets to any resident in need.
04
Some Other Place
I volunteered with another local nonprofit known as Some Other Place! Some Other Place is a soup kitchen based in Beaumont that provides free hot meals to citizens in need everyday of the week.

I love being able to work together with friends, family, and even strangers to put our talents to use to create wonderful meals!
05
Friendsgiving!!
After a rigorous semester full of studies and activties, it is so nice to get together with friends I have made over the years!

Today we held a Friendsgiving session at the new Science and Technology Facility and each person was in charge of bringing a dish!

Today I brought my famous pumpkin pie :)
06
Late Night at the Rec
Today on campus we had Late Night on the Rec which featured activities such as ice skating, ping pong, arts and crafts, and so much more!

I was able to go to this event with my friends Hannah and Krystal. It was so much fun to destress from school before finals and have fun!
07
Ambassador Training
After a long break due to COVID-19, the ambassadors were finally reunited for our annual training!

Here we cover upcoming university events and the expectations that are held for each and every single one of us. It was so nice to be reunited with many of my peers for this one night.
08
Neches River Water Sampling
Today in my Limnology course, we took a small boat out to the Neches River to collect water samples. This was such a fun trip, and I loved how interactive it was.
The purpose of this trip was to study water stratification within wetland structures.

By far this was one of my most memorable classes here at Lamar!
09
Seafarer's Center of Beaumont Crawfish Bowl
As a board member of the nonprofit Seafarer Center, it is important for us to host fundraising events to support the activities of the center.

For our first time ever, we have decided to do a crawfish bowl! Crawfish is a delicacy/local dish of importance here in SETX!

The crawfish bowl was a HIT and I can't wait for us to host it again next year.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace
After my first experience with Sleep in Heavenly Peace a few months ago, I wanted to volunteer there again with some of my classmates from Pre-Dental Society!

I loved being able to be part of different roles everytime I volunteer. Some of the roles I have done before include cutting, sanding and treating wood.

I'm Running for President!
Being a part of Student Government Association for the past two years has really made me passionate in what I do to help other students.

As I reflect on how I have grown as a student, I can say that I am more confident in what I do and passionate in what I beleive in. I want to give it my all during this election season, and try to be a voice for students in bringing their vision to life.

I am running on a team with 3 other students that I highly respect and would love the opportunity to work with them next year!
12
Election Season
For this election season, my team decided to run on a campaign known as LU Vision. Our goal is to bring student's vision of Lamar University to life, and the only way to do that is by reaching out to other students!

We have held many tabling sessions, and are scheduled to speak with 10+ student organizations in the coming two weeks!
13
We WON!
I am so thrilled to announce that my entire team has won the seats for SGA! All of our hard work has now come to a close, and now the real work begins!

This past election season has taught me imporant lessons such as time management and prioritizing what is important to you.

To be elected as the Student Body President is a huge honor in and of itself, and I hope to be the voice for students in the future.

Pictured is the Executive Cabinet for next year.

Award Ceremony
Today I received my TSUS Regents' Student Scholar Award from the president of our university, President Kenneth Evans. It was such an honor to receive this award from President Evans before he leaves office.

I was so proud to show my parents the medal and signed resolution that was gifted to me for this award.
